About Us

About Alameda Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics

We've been caring for Bay Area kids since 1971. Some of the parents in our waiting rooms today came here as kids themselves, and that's not a coincidence. It's what fifty years of good care looks like.

Doctors Who Call the Bay Area Home

Many of our doctors grew up here, and a few were our patients first. This is their community too.

Our Story

Fifty Years of Guiding Bay Area Smiles

The colorful, kid-friendly waiting area and front desk at our Alameda office

It Started in 1971

Alameda Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics opened its doors in 1971 as a small neighborhood practice with one goal: make kids smile. Five decades later, that goal hasn't changed, even as everything around it has.

We've grown into a team of pediatric dentists, orthodontists, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and an anesthesiologist working across four Bay Area locations. We've modernized our technology and expanded what we can treat under one roof. But the culture that built this practice, one built on patience, follow-through, and genuine care for the families we see, is the same culture that runs it today.

Every Specialist Your Child Needs

Families see us in Alameda, Oakland, Pleasanton, and Brentwood, and every office was designed around what kids and parents actually need: shorter waits, calmer rooms, and a team that already knows the plan.

APD is the only pediatric dental practice in the Bay Area that pairs on-site orthodontics with a fully equipped sedation center. That means your child can move from a routine exam to orthodontic care to a sedation-supported procedure without ever being referred out to someone new. Our specialists work from the same chart and the same plan, so nothing gets lost between appointments and nothing has to be explained twice.

Our on-site sedation suite

Advanced Training. Complete Peace of Mind.

Some children need more support to get through a visit comfortably, whether that's a child with sensory sensitivities, a complex medical history, or significant anxiety about the dentist. Our doctors and clinical team have advanced training in special needs and sedation dentistry, and we hold hospital privileges at Kaiser Oakland and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland.

That combination is rare. It means the cases many offices refer out are ones we're prepared to handle here, with a team your child already knows.

Meet the Team

Our Doctors, by Specialty

Several of our doctors were raised in the Bay Area, and this is still their community. A few were APD patients long before they became APD doctors. Dr. Sharine Thenard was one of them. She returned to the practice that treated her as a child and became a partner in 2005.

Dr. MyLinh Ngo joined APD in 2008 and built her practice on that same foundation of patience and empathy. Team members who've been with us for decades are the norm here, and that kind of tenure is why families keep coming back generation after generation.

Investing in the Team That Cares for Your Child

A practice is only as good as the people in it. We invest in our team's ongoing education and professional development because the families we see deserve a team that keeps growing alongside the field of pediatric dentistry. That investment shows up in how our staff treats your child: consistent, confident, and genuinely glad to see them.

Our Promise to You

Guiding Your Child's Smile, One Plan at a Time

We don't think of our work as a series of appointments. We think of it as guiding a child's smile from their first tooth through young adulthood, catching what matters while it's still simple to address. That's the thinking behind SmilePath™, and it's the same thinking that's shaped this practice since 1971.

Fifty years in, our goal hasn't moved. We want every child who walks through our doors to leave with a healthier smile and a little more confidence than they came in with, and we want your family to trust us with that for years to come.
