Pediatric Service

Emergency Pediatric Dentist in Alameda, CA

When your child needs urgent care, our Alameda team has been the trusted call for Bay Area families since 1971, day or night. Call us anytime.

Why Emergency Dentistry Matters

We're Here, Any Time You Need Us

Accidents are simply part of childhood, and when one involves your child's teeth, we want you to feel confident about exactly who to call. Our doctors and staff are on call every day, including weekends and after hours, to provide immediate guidance and care when your child needs it most.

Available Day, Night, and Weekends

A dental emergency doesn't wait for office hours, so neither do we. Whatever time it happens, you can reach a real member of our team for guidance on what to do next.

New Patients Welcome, No Exceptions

If your child has a serious injury and isn't already one of our patients, please still reach out. We're committed to supporting every family in our community, not just the ones already in our system.

One Team for Every Kind of Emergency

Whether it's a knocked-out tooth, sudden pain, or a poking wire from braces, the same team that already knows pediatric and orthodontic care is the one guiding you through it.

Financial Information

Let's Talk About the Financial Side

We'll help you make sense of your insurance benefits so there are no surprises. Because every plan is different, we encourage families to check with their provider ahead of time. Your estimated patient portion is due at the time of service.

What to Do for a Knocked-Out or Broken Tooth

  • Call us right away. We'll walk you through next steps based on your child's specific situation.
  • For a knocked-out permanent tooth, try to find the tooth and handle it only by the crown, not the root. If possible, gently rinse it and try placing it back in the socket, or keep it in a small container of milk if that's not possible, and get to us as quickly as you can.
  • For a knocked-out baby tooth, don't try to reinsert it. Keep your child comfortable and call us so we can advise on next steps.
  • For a chipped or broken tooth, rinse your child's mouth with warm water and save any broken piece if you can find it, then give us a call.

What to Do for Dental Pain or Swelling

  • Rinse your child's mouth gently with warm water
  • A cold compress on the outside of the cheek can help with swelling in the meantime
  • Avoid giving your child aspirin directly on the gum or tooth, as it can irritate the tissue
  • Call us as soon as you notice persistent pain or swelling, so we can get your child comfortable and treat the underlying cause

What to Do for Braces or Orthodontic Discomfort

  • Orthodontic wax can help if a wire is poking or irritating the cheek
  • Loose or broken brackets usually aren't a true emergency, but they're worth a call so we can advise on timing for a repair
  • Visit our Orthodontic Emergencies page for more detailed guidance on specific situations

  • Reach out as soon as possible whenever an emergency happens. The sooner we hear from you, the more we can help

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is emergency care available after hours and on weekends?
Yes. Our doctors and staff are on call every day, including weekends and after hours, for immediate guidance and care.
What counts as a dental emergency for a child?
Knocked-out or broken teeth, significant pain or swelling, and injuries to the mouth or gums are all good reasons to call. When in doubt, reach out. We're glad to help you figure out the right next step.
What should I do if my child's permanent tooth gets knocked out?
Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root, and try gently rinsing and placing it back in the socket. If that's not possible, keep it in milk and call us right away.
What if it's a baby tooth that gets knocked out?
Don't try to reinsert a baby tooth. Keep your child comfortable and give us a call so we can advise on next steps.
What should I do if my child chips or breaks a tooth?
Rinse their mouth with warm water, save any broken piece if you can find it, and call us for guidance.
My child has a swollen face or jaw and is in pain. What should I do?
Call us as soon as you notice it. In the meantime, a cold compress can help with swelling, and we'll get your child seen to treat the underlying cause.
What if my child's braces wire is poking or a bracket broke?
Orthodontic wax can ease irritation from a poking wire in the meantime. A broken bracket usually isn't urgent, but it's still worth a call so we can plan the right timing for a repair.
Do I need to go to the ER instead of calling the dentist?
For dental and mouth injuries, call us first. We'll help you determine whether your child needs to be seen by us or would be better served at an emergency room, based on what happened.
Can I bring in a child who isn't already a patient for an emergency?
Yes. We welcome new patients experiencing a serious injury, even if they haven't been seen at our office before.
How can I prepare my family for a dental emergency ahead of time?
Save our number in your phone and share it with anyone who spends time with your child, from teachers to babysitters, so help is one call away whenever it's needed.
